ECHOSEA is a tool for the sustainable management of marine resources in the Mediterranean, intended to reduce accidental catches of marine animals. This application is developed by the Mediterranean Association of Producer Organizations in partnership with IFREMER, thanks to the support of France Filière Pêche and the Languedoc-Roussillon Region. This tool is intended for professional fishermen, and more particularly for the longline fleet targeting bluefin tuna in the French Mediterranean.ECHOSEA makes it possible to record and geo-reference the presence of marine animals such as Rays and Sharks, in order to avoid their capture. ECHOSEA is based on the principle of eco-responsibility, the application allows the creation of a community of "observer" fishermen.ECHOSEA promotes the distribution of nautical charts with the aim of improving the selectivity of the fishing gear while minimizing the risks of accidental capture of sensitive accessory species.
